Setting Up the Kitchen Display Screen

Learn how to send orders from your point of sale to a Yoco Kitchen Display Screen in the kitchen, so food goes out faster.

Running a busy kitchen on handwritten slips and shouted orders is a recipe for mistakes. Our Kitchen Display Screen puts every order (with all its modifiers) on a screen your kitchen team can actually see. The moment you ring something up, it's there. No slips to lose, no running back and forth, and no guessing what's been done and what's still waiting.

New to Yoco Counter? Before your Kitchen Display Screen can receive orders, you need to have Counter up and running. Get started with Counter here.

The Yoco Kitchen Display Screen connects to the following devices:

Note: The Kitchen Display Screen is available on our Plus Plan and Pro Plan. The Plus Plan is the right fit if your kitchen runs only one station. If it runs more than one station, the Pro Plan lets you connect multiple screens and route orders automatically to the right place using our Prep Stations feature.

⭐ Top tip: Before your first service, ring up a test order on your Counter or Khumo handheld point of sale and check that the ticket arrives on your Kitchen Display Screen. It's the quickest way to make sure that everything's connected.

Using the Kitchen Display Screen

Taking and fulfilling an order is a four-step loop your whole team will have down before the first rush. Orders come in from Counter or a handheld device, and your kitchen team takes it from there.

  1. A staff member takes the customer's order on Yoco Counter, a Khumo/Khumo 2, or Khumo Print/Khumo Print 2.

  2. A ticket appears on the Kitchen Display Screen, showing:

    • All items in the order

    • Modifiers (e.g. oat milk, no onion, sauce on the side)

    • Order type (i.e. sit-down or takeaway)

    • The staff member who took the order

  3. When the ticket is done, your kitchen staff taps the Ready button on the screen, then swipes the ticket away to dismiss it.

  4. The moment a ticket is marked Ready in the kitchen, the status immediately updates to the same on your Counter.

What the kitchen sees

The Kitchen Display is designed to give your kitchen team a clear picture at all times of what's been ordered, and what needs to go out first. Ticket headers change colour over time, so nothing gets forgotten.

Colour

What it means

🟢 Green

Order just came in

🟠 Amber

Order has been waiting a while and needs to be moved on

🔴 Red

Order has been waiting the longest and needs to be prioritised

💡 Good to know:

  • You decide the time it takes for an order to change from green → amber and then from amber → red when you're setting up the Kitchen Display Screen. To change these timings, go to the Settings cog in the top left corner of the Kitchen Display Screen and open the Timers panel.

  • If an item is voided, it'll appear struck through on the Kitchen Display Screen with a Voided tag, so kitchen staff always knows what to ignore.

  • Page dots at the bottom of the screen let your kitchen team know if there are more tickets to check.

What front of house sees

Your front-of-house team will get some useful new information on their point of sale devices about what's happening in the kitchen.

Tables tab →

The Tables tab on Counter and all of the Khumo devices shows the kitchen status for each table. You'll see the order status (either Preparing or Ready), along with the table name, guest count, staff member, and time. As soon as the order is marked Ready on the Kitchen Display Screen, the order status will change from Preparing → Ready on your point of sale.

Orders tab →

The Orders tab shows the status (Preparing or Ready) of every open order at a glance, as well the order number, staff member, and time.

Note: You’ll only see a fulfilment status on your Tables and Orders tab if you have a Kitchen Display Screen connected to your profile. If you don't, your Counter will work the same way it always has.
