How to set up Yoco Counter

🛠️ Do you have the correct permissions to set up Counter? Your new POS system can only be set up up by an Administrator, Manager or Supervisor who logs in to the Yoco POS App with the username (email address or mobile number) and password linked to the Yoco profile. Click here to change staff permission settings.

1. Install your Yoco Counter and Neo Touch cradle

Yoco Counter only connects to one Neo Touch device at a time. While it doesn’t pair directly with the Yoco Khumo/Khumo Print, saved orders created on these card machines can sync with Yoco Counter for seamless table-side ordering and tracking.

  1. Remove your Yoco Counter and Neo Touch cradle from the box and position them on the countertop, within 5 metres of your WiFi router. Make sure that the tablet screen faces your staff, and the card machine faces your customers when it’s sitting in the cradle.

  2. Plug the power cables into both devices, then plug the Neo Touch cradle into the tablet.

  3. Plug the Yoco Counter into a surge-protected outlet. Use extension cables if necessary to reach the outlets.

Ports

  • Micro USB-C Port: For fast charging and data transfer

  • USB Type-A Port: Supports connection of up to two external devices (scanners, peripherals, etc.). For receipt printing functionality, only the Yoco Printer is compatible with Yoco Counter.

  • RJ45 LAN Port: For a stable, wired network connection.

2. Connect your Neo Touch to WiFi

  1. Switch on your Neo Touch by holding the power button in for 3 seconds.

  2. Enter the username (email address or mobile number) and password you created for your Yoco profile, and tap Log in.

  3. Tap on Settings (the cog icon) in the top left corner of the Neo Touch home screen.

  4. Tap Network & internet.

  5. Tap WiFi.

  6. Toggle the WiFi button to the ‘on’ position.

  7. Select your WiFi network and enter your password to connect to WiFi (recommended when transacting in areas with limited cellular reception).

✨ Forgotten your password? Tap the Forgot your password link and we’ll send a password reset link to the email address or phone number connected to your Yoco profile.

3. Switch on your Yoco Counter, log in and connect to WiFi

  1. Turn on your Yoco Counter using the button on the top right of the device.

  2. Once your Counter has powered up, it will automatically connect to the Telkom SIM card inside the device, which roams across networks to find the strongest signal. If you’re struggling with connectivity, you can easily switch to WiFi by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the Internet tile/widget to choose your preferred WiFi network.

  3. Log in to the Yoco POS App on your Counter by entering your username (email address or mobile number) and the password you created for your Yoco profile.

  4. Once you’ve logged in, you'll be invited to set up your product catalogue, enable stock tracking, and create staff profiles in the Yoco App (mobile or web). You can choose to visit the Yoco App or Skip to return this task later.

  5. You’ll now be guided through the Counter setup on screen. Follow the prompts to link your card machine immediately, or come back and follow Step 4 (below) if you decide to skip that part for the moment.

✨ Experiencing connectivity issues?

Yoco Counter requires a strong, stable Wi-Fi connection (50mb is recommended). If you’re struggling with connectivity, try these quick fixes in the following order:

  1. Check the strength of the WiFi signal on Counter. If the signal is low, move the WiFi router closer to the device.

  2. Check the WiFi speed using a speed test app on another device. If the speed is below 20mb, use the SIM card inside your Counter to access mobile data.

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.

    2. Tap Settings (cog icon) near the bottom of the screen.

    3. Tap Network & internet.

    4. Toggle the WiFi switch to the 'off' position.

  3. Try connecting Counter directly to the WiFi router with a LAN cable.

Once you’ve logged in to Counter, you'll find these navigation tabs:
