Updated over a week ago

To get started with the Yoco Point of Sale (no matter your business or setup), you'll first need to make sure you've signed up with Yoco and completed your profile for verification. This is so you can start customising your Yoco settings for selling, and we can lawfully pay you out.

Step 1: Create your Yoco profile by signing up

To get started, sign up with Yoco and create your profile. You can do this using the free Yoco Mobile App (Android or iOS), or online via the Yoco Web App here.

Download Yoco Mobile App / Access Yoco Web App

πŸ’‘ To complete your profile setup, download the Yoco Mobile App or access the Yoco Web App online here (no download needed).

Download the Yoco Mobile App: Android | iOS

Completing your Yoco signup is quick and easy, no matter how you choose to enter your details.

Basic Yoco Signup Steps:

  1. Email address: This will be used for important (legal) communications.

πŸ’‘ Use an active email, as it's essential for your Yoco profile.

  2. Mobile number: This is for your profile's security authentication and can be changed later.

πŸ’‘ Provide an active number for notifications and support.

  3. Trading Address: This is your business location for customer interactions and important mail.

πŸ’‘ We may request proof of address in the future.

Step 2: Complete your Yoco profile with bank / business details and verification

Now, complete and verify your Yoco profile by uploading your original FICA documents, taking a live selfie for identity verification, and entering your bank details (you may need to submit proof of account). We’ll conduct mandatory checks and notify you immediately of any issues via the App and email.

If you haven't finished your Yoco profile and your Yoco delivery has arrived, check if your Neo Touch card machine is linked to your profile. If not, follow the steps below to link it through the Yoco Mobile/Web App.

Complete Your Yoco Profile

Finish your Yoco profile with identification and business verification to receive your first payout:

  1. Identification:

    • We accept only original, current identification documents.

    • RSA IDs: Green ID book, Smart ID card, or barcoded passport.

    • International IDs: Barcoded passport and valid work visa.

  2. South African Bank Account: Must be transactional (able to make and receive payments), such as a current or cheque account. Check with your bank if unsure.

Note: You can't add products or staff on the Yoco Mobile/Web App until you've completed your Yoco profile verification.

Check Your Neo Touch is Linked to your Yoco Profile

Log in to the Yoco Mobile/Web App here, go to your business profile, and select the Card machines tile.

πŸ’‘ Your Neo Touch should be listed. If not, add it by clicking + Add card machine and enter the serial number found on the back of the machine (not on the charging stand or tablet). It'll look something like this:

Step 3: Set up your POS settings in the Yoco App

Now it's time to set up how you'd like to sell, and customise your Counter and POS payments experience. This is all done either from the Yoco Mobile/Web App here.

Set up your...

Yoco Receipts

Receipts are sent to your customers via email or SMS after successful payments with Yoco. You can configure your receipts by logging into the Yoco Web App here or using the Yoco Mobile App.

  1. Go to the Business Settings section in the Yoco App.

  2. Click on the Receipt settings tile.

  3. In the "Details" section, click Edit.

    Here, you can:

    • Choose your Receipt Type (Receipt or Tax Invoice).

    • Add a Business Tagline to describe your business.

    • Enter a Receipt Footer for additional information (opening hours, specials, etc.).

    • Decide whether to show your phone number on receipts (default is on; toggle off if preferred).

  4. Use the Preview tile at the top to review your receipt.

πŸ’‘ To add/edit your business's logo or social media handles, visit your business details page.

Tip settings

Do you receive tips for good service? Manage your tip settings for all Yoco card machines and the Yoco POS in the Tip Settings page of your Mobile or Web App.

πŸ’‘ Setting up tips in the Yoco Mobile/Web App automatically updates all your card machines.

Payment methods

πŸ’‘ You can use your Yoco card machines and the Yoco POS to record other payment methods, not just card payments! Like cash payments, recording sales with other methods will contribute to your Yoco Sales History for reporting and insights.

Note: Yoco does not process other payment methods or charge fees for them. Refunds for these methods cannot be made from your Yoco Sales History, but you can resend receipts and view payment details. These methods are for record-keeping only; Yoco does not integrate directly with these providers.

Your Payment methods settings are in the business settings section of the Yoco Web App. Ten payment methods are available for record-keeping, with Card, Cash and Payment link always active.

πŸ’‘ To activate a payment method, simply toggle the button on or off. Changes will reflect on all your Yoco card machines and POS.

Step 4: Add your Products Catalogue in the Yoco App

When using the Yoco POS App to process a sale, quickly tap to add products to the bill before taking payment on your Neo Touch. This speeds up checkout and provides detailed reporting in your Yoco App's Hub, allowing you to track product and category performance.

Step 5: Create PINs for your staff access in the Yoco App

Creating a staff profile allows team members to log in to your Yoco card machines and the Yoco POS App, ensuring their sales are recorded under their name. This improves staff performance reporting and speeds up cash-ups at the end of each shift.

For your Yoco profile, there are fundamentally two types of staff login types: PIN-only logins reserved for staff members (with the most limited permission settings), and username & password logins for all users with permission levels above that of a "staff member". For staff who only need to be able to log in to the Yoco POS App to make sales, a PIN-only profile gives managers a quicker and easier way to quickly manage access during busy trade.

Note: Only Administrators can add new staff members.

To add a PIN-only staff member profile:

  1. Log in to the Yoco Mobile/Web App here: from the Manage tab, click on the Staff tile.

  2. Click on the + New Staff Member button to fill out the staff profile form.

  3. Choose the User Type as Staff member.

  4. Add the staff member's first and last name (required fields).

  5. Create a PIN for secure staff switching while using the Yoco POS.

  6. The staff member will need to create a new 4-digit PIN when they sign in to the Yoco POS App for the first time. After that, they're ready to start selling and performing staff switching as needed.

To add a username & password (manager) staff profile:

  1. Log in to the Yoco Mobile/Web App here: from the Manage tab, click on the Staff tile.

  2. Click on the + New Staff Member button to fill out the staff profile form.

  3. Choose the User Type: Administrator, Manager, Supervisor, or Custom. Selecting a user type shows the associated permissions. For more control, choose Custom and select specific permissions.

  4. Add the first and last name (required fields).

  5. Provide either a mobile number or email address for their Yoco login username.

πŸ’‘ Adding both is recommended for easier password management and 2-Factor Authentication.

  6. Create a PIN for secure staff switching while using the Yoco POS.

  7. The manager/supervisor etc will receive an invite via email or SMS with their new login details.
