Selling with your Khumo & Khumo Print

Find out how to complete sales using different payment methods, add discounts, save orders, and a whole lot more.

The Khumo and Khumo Print are our premium standalone card machines. If you’ve already set up your Khumo or Khumo Print, it’s time to get you selling – and with your new business partner, you can process a transaction in under three seconds!


The Khumo/Khumo Print accepts all major cards, including American Express, via tap, chip, swipe, PIN, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

To tap: Tap the card on the back of the device.

To swipe: Use the slit at the top of the device.

For chip: Insert the card at the bottom of the device.

Top tip: The best way to get comfortable with your new Khumo/Khumo Print is to process a test transaction. Enter a minimum of R2.00 and tap with your card when prompted.


Completing a card transaction


Without Quick Charge

What is Quick Charge? This feature lets you accept card payments faster than ever by allowing you to skip the payment method selection screen.

Quick Charge is turned off by default on the Khumo/Khumo Print. Here's how to make a sale on your device without it. (Or click here for a guide to transacting with Quick Charge enabled.)

  1. From the home screen, select New sale.

  2. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap to add products to your sale, or enter an amount.

    💡 Good to know: You can include items from your product catalogue and custom amounts on the same order – simply toggle between Amount and Products in the tab at the top of your screen.

  4. Tap the Charge button.

  5. Tap your chosen payment method.

  6. Ask your customer to select a tip option on your Khumo/Khumo Print.

    Have you activated other payment methods? You can enable several payment methods like QR code, EFT, online and gift cards for record-keeping and reporting purposes. Head here to find out how.

  7. Ask your customer to present their card for payment – a success message will display on your device once the transaction has been completed.

  8. Tap the Get receipt button if your customer would like to scan a QR code for a digital receipt, they would like to get a receipt via SMS or email, or you want to print a receipt (Khumo Print only).


🗒️ Want to add a note to your sale?

When you’re making a sale on your Khumo/Khumo Print, you have the option of adding a note (e.g. an invoice number or your customer’s name) when you enter the transaction amount.

  1. Select the Add note button on the payment screen.

  2. Add the relevant information to your note.

  3. Select the Save button.

Completing a card transaction


With Quick Charge enabled

What is Quick Charge? This feature lets you accept card payments faster than ever by allowing you to skip the payment method selection screen.

Follow these steps to enable Quick Charge and complete a transaction with it:

  1. Tap the Control centre tab.

  2. Tap the Sales tile/widget.

  3. Toggle the Quick charge switch to the 'on' position.

  4. Tap the New sale button on the home screen.

  5. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  6. Tap to add products to your sale, or enter an amount.

  8. Ask your customer to select a tip option on your Khumo/Khumo Print.

Completing a cash transaction


Cash is ‘always on’ as a payment method in the Yoco App (mobile or web). If you’d like to accept cash payments on your Khumo/Khumo Print, click here to find out how.

  1. Tap the New sale button on the Khumo/Khumo Print home screen.

  2. Enter the sale amount/products and tap the Charge button.

  3. Select Cash as the payment method.

  4. Enter the cash amount the customer has given you and the amount of change owed will automatically be calculated.

  5. Tap the Pay button.

  6. Once the transaction has been successfully completed, the payment will be recorded for your records, and a breakdown of the sale will appear on the screen.

  7. Tap the Get receipt button if you would like to send the customer a receipt via email or SMS. If you're using the Khumo Print, you’ll also have the option of printing cash and itemised receipts.

✨ You can capture payment methods from QR codes to payment links, and more on your Khumo/Khumo Print for record-keeping and reporting purposes. Discounts


It’s easy to give your customers a discount on their entire order, or on individual items in their order, when you’re using a product catalogue on your Khumo/Khumo Print card machine.

→ On order total

  1. Tap the New sale button on the home screen.

  2. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap to add products to your sale and/or enter an amount.

  4. Tap the View order button.

  5. Tap the plus sign next to Discount at the bottom of the order screen.

  6. Choose to discount the order total by 5%, 10% or 15%, or tap the Custom tile to enter a custom amount or percentage.

  7. Tap the Apply discount button.

  8. Tap the Charge button to continue with the sale as usual.

→ On individual items

  1. Tap the New sale button on the home screen.

  2. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap to add products to your sale and/or enter an amount.

  4. Tap the View order button.

  5. Tap the three vertical dots to the right of the item you want to discount.

  6. Tap the Add discount button.

  7. Choose to discount the product by 5%, 10% or 15%, or tap the Custom tile to enter a custom amount or percentage.

  8. Tap the Apply discount button.

  9. Tap the Charge button to continue with the sale as usual.

Split payments


Splitting payments on your Khumo/Khumo Print card machine is quick and convenient, for you and your customers.

  1. Tap the New sale button on the home screen.

  2. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap to add products to your sale, or enter an amount.

  4. Tap the Charge button.

  5. Tap the Split bill button just below the order total.

  6. To add the first partial payment of the order total, tap the Add payment button.

  7. Select the first payment method.

  8. Enter the first amount to be paid and tap the Charge button.

  9. If you selected Card as the payment type, you'll have the option to enter a tip (if you've activated this feature on your device) before you're prompted to take payment on your card machine.

  10. If you selected Cash as the payment type, enter the amount of cash the customer has given you and tap the Pay button.

  11. Tap the Get receipt button to send your customer a receipt via QR code (card payments only), SMS, or email.

  12. Tap the Done button to move on to the next partial payment – the first payment will now reflect on your screen.

  13. Tap the Add payment button to process the next partial payment.

  14. When all payments are complete, tap the Close bill button to finalise the transaction.


Saved orders


With the Khumo/Khumo Print, you can take orders tableside, save them, and settle the bill at your own pace.

Please Note: This feature is only available for standalone Khumo/Khumo Print card machines that are selling from a product catalogue.

  1. Tap Saved orders on the home screen – if this is your first saved order, a 'No orders yet' message will display on the screen.

  2. Tap the New sale button to start an order.

  3. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  4. Tap to add products to your sale and/or enter an amount.

  5. Tap the View order button.

  6. Tap the Save button.

  7. Enter a name for the sale to make it easier to find when you go back to it later. If you skip this step, an order number will automatically be assigned to it.

  8. Your saved order will now reflect on the Saved orders screen.

  9. To go back to a saved order, tap the Saved orders tab on your home screen and a list of your saved orders will appear.

  10. Once you've selected an order, you can add additional items or a note, change the quantity of an item, add a discount, or remove an item from the order. You can also select the Print bill button at the top of the screen to print an itemised bill (Khumo Print only).

  11. When you're ready accept payment on the order, tap the Charge button.

Want to do a split payment on a saved order? No problem. Once you've gone back to your saved order and tapped the Charge button, select the Split bill button, and then follow steps 6–9 here.


Itemised bills


An itemised bill, printed directly from your Khumo Print, gives customers a clear breakdown of what they owe before they pay.

Please Note: Itemised bills are only available for standalone Khumo Print card machines where you're selling from a product catalogue.

  1. Tap the New sale button on the home screen.

  2. Choose between Amount and Products at the top of the screen.

  3. Tap to add products to your sale and/or enter an amount.

  4. Tap the View order button.

  5. Tap the Print bill button at the top of the screen to print an itemised receipt.

✨ It's not (yet) possible to reprint an itemised receipt from the History tab on your Khumo Print. You can however email or WhatsApp an itemised receipt from your Sales history in the Yoco App (mobile or web) or the Yoco POS App.


Receipts


Once you've processed a successful payment on your Khumo/Khumo Print, you can share a receipt with your customer via QR code, SMS, email or by printing it out (Khumo Print only). Here's how.

  1. Once the payment has been approved, tap Get receipt.

  2. Hand your Khumo/Khumo Print to your customer and allow them to scan the QR code for a digital receipt.

  3. Alternatively, tap SMS to enter the customer’s cellphone number and send their receipt via SMS. Tap Email to enter the customer’s email address and send their receipt via email. Or tap Print to print a payment receipt and/or an itemised receipt (Khumo Print only).


Need to change the paper roll?

The Khumo Print comes with three 40 mm thermal paper rolls. Replacement rolls can be bought online and at stationery shops.

  1. Release the printer cover by gently squeezing the tabs on either side of the top of the Khumo Print.

  2. Place the paper roll inside the printer casing, making sure to feed it through the printer the right way around.

  3. Click the printer cover back into place.

Run out of paper during a transaction? You can print as many receipts as you need to at the end of each transaction. Just remember that once you’ve tapped Done, you’ll need to access the transaction through your Sales History to print a receipt.


🖨️ Need to reprint a receipt? Tap the History tab on the home screen, select the transaction you want to reprint a receipt for, then tap Print receipt. You can print receipts for refunded transactions in the same way.


Itemised receipts


The Khumo Print gives you the option of printing out an itemised receipt – perfect for your records and convenient for customers who want to return an item at a later stage. To activate this feature:

  1. Tap the Control centre tab on the home screen.

  2. Tap the Printing tile/widget.

  3. Toggle the Itemised receipts switch to the 'on' position.

Please Note: The itemised receipts feature is only available for standalone Khumo Print card machines that are selling from a product catalogue.

  1. Once the payment has been approved, tap Get Receipt.

  2. Tap the Print button to print a payment receipt for your customer, then tap the blue Done button.

  3. Your Khumo Print will print a standard payment receipt.

  4. It will then ask if you would like to ‘Print itemised receipt?’. Tap the blue Print button if you would like to print an itemised receipt.

  5. Tap the Done button to complete the sale.

✨ You can print itemised receipts for all the payment methods you’ve enabled via the Yoco App (mobile or web) – not just card payments.

Printing an itemised receipt for split bills

With the Khumo Print, you can print out payment receipts and itemised receipts for split bills so that both customers have a record of their spend.

  1. Once the first payment has been approved (find out how split a payment here), tap Get Receipt.

  2. Next, tap the Print button to print a payment receipt for your customer, then tap the blue Done button.

  3. Your Khumo Print will now print a payment receipt for the first payment.

  4. Now press the blue Add payment button and repeat the above steps for the second payment.

  5. Once the second payment has been completed and the receipt printed, tap the Close bill button.


Sales history


To access the sales history on your Khumo/Khumo Print and check all the sales you've made by date, select the History tab on the home screen of your device.

You can also view your combined Yoco sales and manage your sales, by heading to Sales Sales history in the Yoco App (mobile or web).


Here, you'll find a breakdown of all your sales by date, time, device, method, staff member, and location.
