Yoco Signup: FAQs
Updated this week

What is Yoco Signup?

Yoco Signup is about getting all your key information, so that we can create your Yoco Profile. We’ll then verify your details, before we can pay you out. Completing Yoco signup is quick and easy, and the steps are the same no matter where or how you choose to enter your details.

Why do I need to sign up to join Yoco?

As a regulated financial institution, we must capture certain details in order to be allowed to process your transactions and settle your funds. By South African law, we must follow standard KYC and FICA procedures (among others) before we're allowed to provide our services.

How long will it take?

Signup can take as little as 5 minutes, after which you'll be able to start transacting straight away. This means the pressure's off while you get your profile verified, without interrupting your sales.

Where or how do I sign up?

There are two ways to sign up with Yoco:

  1. Sign up online at hello.yoco.com

  2. Download the free Yoco POS App, and you can sign up and complete your profile for payouts all in one place. You can also use the App as a Point of Sale in future.

What Terms will I accept when signing up?

When you click on “Continue” at the end of the first step of Yoco signup, you accept our Terms and Conditions. Please make sure you read and understand them all, before accepting our agreement.

What information will I need to submit?

You'll create your secure profile login with an email address, mobile phone number and password. After that, you'll tell us more about yourself and your business so we can put your basic profile settings in place. These details include your name, address, business type and commercial activity.

Do I need a registered business to sign up with Yoco?

Nope, you can also sign up as an individual or an unregistered business with more than one owner.

Do I need to have a business bank account to sign up with Yoco?

Nope, if you sign up as an individual you can use a bank account in your own name and which can be a private account. All you need is a South African bank account that is also transactional - so it can take both debits and credits.

Are there any signup or setup fees for my new Yoco profile?

Zero. Zilch. Unothi.

Do I have to buy a card machine to sign up?

No, you can also sign up using a second hand or reseller Yoco card machine (not bought directly from Yoco), and you can sign up without the need for a card machine if you'd like to use our online payments gateway.

How soon can I start taking payments after I signed up?

Straight away! We won't hold you back from grabbing that next sale with both hands. Please be aware that the only possible holdup is that we can't pay you out until you've verified your profile for payouts.

Why do I need to verify my profile for payouts?

Legally, we’re not allowed to settle or pay out any merchant transactions without having completed all the regulatory mandated identification and verification checks required by South African law.

More than that, it’s all a crucial part of making sure we keep the entire Yoco payment network and community safe from risky and prohibited activity, fraud, financial crimes, and cybercrime.

What happens to the money from my sales while my profile gets verified for payouts?

Depending on your vetting scenario, it may take some time to finalise this process, but not to worry — we’ll keep your payout total safe in the meantime, and settle all transactions into your bank account as soon as you’ve submitted all your documents, passed the checks, and we’re authorised to do so.

This is why it’s so important to first make sure that you have everything you need to complete Setup for Payouts, before you start transacting or making sales.
