SIM Card Deactivation
SIM Card Deactivation

If your SIM card has been flagged for deactivation, here's why – and what you can do to keep it active.

Updated today

If you’ve recently received an email or WhatsApp from Yoco flagging the SIM card(s) in your Yoco card machine(s) for deactivation, you may be wondering why. The answer is simple: If your business hasn’t processed any transactions or received any payments for at least three months, we deactivate your SIM card(s) and reallocate these resources to enhance the overall Yoco customer experience.

✨ The data on your SIM card(s) can only be used with your Yoco card machine(s). You can’t use them to create a hotspot, and they won't work in any other device.

How to prevent your SIM card from being deactivated

Our SIM card deactivations are never intended to take functionality away from you, which is why we keep you informed about your options throughout the process. Once you’ve been notified that your SIM card(s) has been flagged for deactivation, you have 14 days to keep it active by processing a sale of as little as R2.00 on any one of your Yoco card machines.

💡 Good to know: You can continue using your Neo Touch, Khumo and/or Khumo Print card machine(s) if your SIM card(s) are deactivated by connecting to Wi-Fi. SIM card deactivations won’t affect your Yoco profile, sales history, or other stored data.

💬 If you have more than one card machine with a SIM flagged for deactivation, you're welcome to reach out to our Support Team via our in-app chat about keeping one SIM active as a backup.

Requesting a new SIM card after deactivation

Yoco card machines (like the Neo Touch, Khumo and Khumo Print) that come with a free SIM card, also include free SIM card replacements with unlimited data. If your SIM card is deactivated, but your business needs change at any point, please reach out to our Support Team via our in-app chat. Message them to say, 'My SIM card was deactivated and I'd like to request a replacement,' and they'll make sure you get a new SIM card ASAP.

Why send one replacement SIM card when the Khumo and Khumo Print have two? We send a Telkom SIM card with roaming capabilities that connects to Vodacom and MTN – so you still have access to both networks.

Your new SIM card will be delivered free of charge by our delivery partners, CCD Couriers. Find out more about their delivery process here.

💡 Good to know: Our SIM card replacement offer is for life. You can read about it in the relevant SIM and/or card machine policies on our website here.

Planning to sell your Yoco card machine? You can either order a replacement SIM card before you sell, or let the new owner know that they can order a free SIM card from Yoco at any time.
