Completing your Yoco Profile: (Pty) Ltd

You've signed up with Yoco as a (Pty) Ltd. Now it's time to complete your profile by verifying yourself and your business.

Before you can take payments, South African law (FICA) requires us to confirm who you are, who owns and runs your company, and where your money will be paid. Many companies are verified within an hour. If we need to check something manually, it can take a few days – and the sooner your other directors and shareholders complete their verification, the sooner you can start.

Is this the right guide?

This guide is for you if you selected the following options:

  1. Is your business registered with CIPC? → Yes, it's a (Pty) Ltd, CC or NPC

  2. Select your business → a company whose name ends in (Pty) Ltd

Not a (Pty) Ltd? Select your business type and get the right steps to complete your Yoco profile: Sole Proprietor • Closed Corporation (CC) • Partnership • NPO • NPC • Trust

As a registered company (Pty) Ltd, your business is registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC ) and has a business registration number.

Note: While some body corporates are registered with the CIPC, we don't currently onboard this type of entity.

Once you've signed up with Yoco, you'll be redirected to the Yoco App (mobile or web) to complete a few checks, as required by South African law.

Not sure what you'll need? Check our verification requirements for individuals and businesses.

❗Important: Only after your profile has been completed and your information verified, can you start transacting and getting paid with Yoco.

Haven't downloaded the Yoco Mobile App yet? It's your back office in your back pocket.

Completing your Yoco profile as a (Pty) Ltd

Before you start, make sure that:

  • Your company is active on the CIPC and up to date with its annual returns

  • You're an active director listed on the CIPC, or the directors have given you authority to sign up the business (see I'm not a director under step 4)

  • You have a business bank account in the company's name, opened with the company's registration number

  • You have the name, email address and mobile number of every other director, and of anyone who owns 25% or more of the company

To complete your profile, you'll need to:

  1. Verify your email address

  2. Verify your mobile number

  3. Add your business details

  4. Verify your identity

  5. Upload your work permit (if applicable)

  6. Add your bank details

  7. Verify directors and shareholders

  8. Final checks (up to 15 minutes)

These steps appear as four tasks on the Complete Setup screen in the Yoco App (mobile or web): verify your email address; add your business details; add your bank account; verify stakeholders.

You won't be able to access the features in the Yoco App (mobile or web) or transact while you're completing your profile or while we're reviewing your information. This includes your card machine – it will only take payments once your profile is active.

1 + 2. Verify your email and mobile number

We send a 6-digit code to each. Enter the most recent code; older codes stop working once you request a new one.

Code hasn't arrived?

  • Email: check spam and junk. Also search for an older "Verify your email" thread from [email protected], because new codes can land in it already marked as read. Work email addresses sometimes block automated mail; try a personal address.

  • SMS: only South African mobile numbers can receive codes. Wait a few minutes before requesting another one.

  • Typo in your email or number? Use Change email address or Change mobile number on the same screen.

  • 'Too many attempts': every request counts, even if the code never arrives. If you requested 5 codes in 5 minutes, wait 5 minutes. If you requested 15 in an hour, wait up to an hour. If you've hit the daily device limit, wait up to 24 hours.

  • Each email address and mobile number can only be linked to one Yoco profile.

3. Add your business details

  1. Select Add your business details on the Complete Setup screen.

  2. When asked Is your business registered with CIPC?, select Yes, it's a (Pty) Ltd, CC or NPC, then select Continue.

  3. Review Here's what you need – your CIPC registration number, a business bank account in the company's name, that you're a CIPC-listed director (or authorised by the directors – we'll check this with them), and the details of your other directors and shareholders. When you have everything, select I'm ready.

  4. Enter your CIPC registration number in the format YYYY/NNNNNN/NN (for example 2025/123456/07), then select Submit.

❗Important: Your company must be active on the CIPC. If it's in deregistration, deregistered or behind on annual returns, you won't be able to onboard it until you've sorted out its status with the CIPC.

Where do I find my CIPC registration number?

    • Log in to your CIPC profile and select Full Disclosure.

    • Look up your company on BizPortal (if you registered your business there).

    • Dial 1347472# from your phone, select Registration Enquiry and follow the prompts.

    • Check the email address linked to your CIPC profile for your Certificate of Registration (COR).

Getting an error after entering your registration number? We couldn't fetch your company's details from the CIPC. Check that the number is correct, then contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and we'll fix it.

  5. Under Select your business, check that the company name and registration number are the ones you want to sign up with, then select Continue.

Not the right business? Select the back arrow and enter the registration number of the business you want to sign up with. If you own more than one company, make sure you enter the number for the one you're onboarding.

  6. If you see Are you the only shareholder in this business?

    • Select Yes, I am if you're the only shareholder and there are no other directors or shareholders.

    • Select No, I'm not if there are other shareholders. You'll add them in step 7.

  7. Under Where can your business be found online?, add your Instagram, Facebook, X and/or website, then select Save. If your business isn't online, select Not applicable.

  8. Business category: choose what brings in most of your income. If nothing matches exactly, pick the closest option.

Why choosing the right category matters: we check every category against what you actually sell. If we find your category is incorrect, we'll correct it for you, so you don't need to contact us to change it. The most accurate category is the quickest way through.

Not sure if we can support your business? Some types of businesses and products can't be processed with Yoco. Check the restricted and prohibited businesses in our Terms and Conditions before you continue.

4. Verify your identity

For a registered company, the person completing the profile is normally an active director listed on the CIPC. If you're not a director, you can still complete it with a letter of authority from the directors – see I'm not a director below.

What you'll need

  • South African citizens: your South African ID card.

  • International citizens: your valid passport and a work permit or visa that allows you to work or run a business in South Africa.

  • Permanent residents: even if you have a South African ID number, follow the steps for international citizens. You'll need your valid passport and your permanent residence permit, which you upload in Step 5.

  • Asylum seekers and refugees: don't start the verification below. Instead, send a copy of your valid Asylum Seeker Temporary Permit, Formal Recognition of Refugee Status or Red Refugee Book, issued by the Department of Home Affairs, to [email protected]. We'll review your document within 7 working days.

  1. Under Which director are you? we'll show you the directors we found for your company on the CIPC. Select yourself, then select Continue.

💡 Good to know: If you're not on the list because you're not a director, select I have a letter of authority at the bottom of the list instead.

❗Important: Once your identity is verified, we check that your details match the director you selected on CIPC: your first name and date of birth must be the same as on your CIPC record. If they don't match, this step will fail. An active director will need to complete the verification, or you can continue with a letter of authority (see I'm not a director below). This check doesn't apply if you selected I have a letter of authority.

    • I'm not a director

You can still sign up the company if its directors have given you authority to do so – for example, if you're the manager, accountant or company secretary acting on the company's behalf.

      • Under Which director are you?, select I have a letter of authority at the bottom of the director list.

      • Verify your own identity as described in this step.

      • In step 7, send each director their verification link. As part of their verification, each director gets an email asking them to confirm that they authorise you to sign up the company with Yoco. You don't need to upload a letter – their confirmation is the authority.

❗Important: Your profile can only be activated once the directors have confirmed your authority as part of their own identity verification.

    • I'm a director, but my name isn't listed or my details are wrong

The list shows what's currently registered with CIPC. Select My name isn't listed, or something's wrong, then:

      • Check your company's director records with CIPC. If you're not listed as an active director, or your ID or passport number is wrong there, update it with CIPC first.

      • If your CIPC records are already up to date, we might not have the latest information yet. Contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and we'll refresh it for you.

      • You can't add, remove or edit directors in the Yoco App.

  2. South African citizens: enter your 13-digit ID number and take a short live selfie. We match the selfie to your photo at Home Affairs. It takes seconds and you don't need any documents.

    For the selfie to pass:

    • Use your phone where possible.

    • Face a light source. Avoid a window or lamp behind you.

    • Remove glasses, hats and masks.

    • Keep a neutral expression and hold still until the scan finishes.

Asked to photograph your ID document?

This happens if Home Affairs doesn't have a photo of you on record, or if your selfie can't be matched to it after a few tries. You can still verify straight away by:

  1. Photographing one of these: your smart ID card, green barcoded ID book or South African passport.

  2. Retaking the selfie. It must be of the same person as the document.

Make sure the document is original, not expired, and fully in frame, with all four corners visible and no glare.

Not a South African citizen?

Select I don't have a South African ID. You'll photograph the photo page of your valid passport, then take a selfie. You'll also need a work permit (Step 5). Permanent residents follow these steps too, even if you have a South African ID number, and upload their permanent residence permit in Step 5.

If we need to check your identity manually

Most identity checks are done automatically in seconds. Sometimes we can't confirm it's you automatically, for example if your selfie can't be matched to your ID, or your document photo isn't clear. When that happens, our team reviews it manually.

  • How long it takes: most identity checks are done within minutes, even if you need to try again. If our team reviews it manually, it can take up to 7 working days.

  • While we review: you'll see In review in the app. You don't need to contact us during this time.

  • If we need you to try again: you'll see Action needed in the app, asking you to redo your selfie or retake the photo of your ID document. Follow the tips above to get it right the first time.

No working camera? You'll need a phone or device with a working camera to complete the identity check. Unfortunately, we don't have another way to verify you.

Opening a new Yoco profile? You'll need to verify your identity again. We can't reuse the identity verification from a previous profile.

Identity verification FAQs

My verification failed because my details don't match CIPC. What now?

Your first name and date of birth from your identity check must match what's registered for you on CIPC. If your CIPC record has a different or misspelled first name, or the wrong date of birth, update it with CIPC first. Once it's updated, contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat so we can refresh your company details.

I updated my details with CIPC, but Yoco still shows the old ones.

Contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and we'll refresh your CIPC information.

Can I complete identity verification with someone else's ID?

No, you take a live selfie as part of this check, and it has to match your own ID document and, if you selected one of the directors, that director's CIPC record.

What if there's no match in the Home Affairs database?

If we can't find a match (this can happen when the Department of Home Affairs' system is down or your photo is missing from their records), we'll ask you to take a photo of your valid identity document and a live selfie. We'll guide you through the process.

My verification failed and I can't try again.

Contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and we'll help you.

5. Upload your work permit (if applicable)

Permanent resident? Upload your permanent residence permit here.

Your permit or visa must:

  • Be issued by the Department of Home Affairs.

  • Be in your name and not expired.

  • State that you may work, conduct business or be employed in South Africa.

Visitor, entry and exit stamps don't qualify.

Renewing your permit? Upload the expired permit together with your renewal receipt. Passport expired but permit still valid? Upload the permit.

Review time: up to 7 working days.

Don't have a work permit?

We're sorry, but we can't open a Yoco account without a valid work permit or visa. Before we can activate a profile, we need to confirm that you're allowed to work or do business in South Africa, and the permit is how we do that.

  • Renewing your permit? You don't need to wait for the new one. Upload your expired permit together with your renewal receipt.

  • Asylum seeker or refugee? Email your valid Asylum Seeker Temporary Permit, Formal Recognition of Refugee Status or Red Refugee Book to [email protected] (see Step 4).

  • Waiting for your permit? Come back once you have it. We'd love to help you get started then.

6. Add your bank details

Whose bank account can I use?

We only accept a bank account that was opened with the registration number of the company you selected in step 3. We check this with your bank, so the company name on the account isn't enough on its own. The account must also be a South African account that can make and receive payments – a cheque, current or savings account.

Bank account

Can I use it?

Business account opened with the company's registration number that you signed up with

✅ Yes

Any personal account – your own, another director's or shareholder's, or an account at a bank that only offers personal accounts (e.g. a regular Capitec, TymeBank or Discovery Bank account)

❌ No – personal accounts aren't accepted for a company

Business account in the company's or trading name, but opened with a director's ID or passport number

❌ No – it must be opened with the company's registration number. To use this account, you'd need to sign up as a sole proprietor instead – see Need to change your business or business type? at the end of this guide

Account of another entity with a different registration number, e.g. a holding company, sister company, trust or NPO

❌ No – it must be the company you're signing up

Account in the company's name that can't make and receive payments, e.g. a fixed deposit, notice deposit or savings pocket

❌ No – it must be transactional

Enter your bank details

Enter everything exactly as your bank has it. Your banking app or a bank statement has all of it.

  1. Select Add your bank account on the Complete Setup screen (or Re-submit your bank details if your first submission wasn't accepted).

  2. Under Where should payouts be sent? you'll see three options. The option with the blue Matches your details tag is the one for the company you selected in step 3 – its registration number is shown underneath. Select A bank account registered with your business to add an account opened with that registration number.

💡 Picked the wrong option? Select the back arrow at the top of the bank details form to return to the three options. The other two options change your business – see Need to change your business or business type? at the end of this guide.

  3. Account holder: nothing to do. It's already filled in with your company name that you selected in step 3.

  4. Bank: choose the exact bank. Capitec and Capitec Business are different banks. Not sure? See Not sure which bank to choose? below.

  5. Account type: select Cheque or Savings, as shown in your banking app or on your statement. Savings accounts are accepted if they can make and receive payments.

  6. Account number: copy it from your banking app or statement. It's usually 9–11 digits. Don't enter your 16-digit card number.

  7. Select Submit.

How do I change the account holder?

You can't edit it directly. For a registered company (Pty) Ltd, the account holder is always the company you selected in step 3, and the bank account must be opened with that company's registration number. It can't be in the name of a person, including you or another director.

  • Want to use another company's business account? You'd need to sign up with that company instead, using its registration number. Under Where should payouts be sent?, select A bank account registered with a different business – this changes your business details. See Need to change your business or business type? at the end of this guide.

  • Want to use a personal account? Personal accounts are only accepted for sole proprietors. If you're actually trading as a sole proprietor and not through the company, select A bank account registered under an ID or passport number under Where should payouts be sent? – this switches your profile to sole proprietor. See Need to change your business or business type? at the end of this guide.

Not sure which bank to choose?

Choosing the wrong bank means your account can't be verified. Choose the bank name shown on your latest bank statement or in your banking app.

  • Capitec or Capitec Business? Choose Capitec Business. A regular Capitec account is a personal account, so it can't be used for a company. Your Capitec Business account number is different from your personal Capitec account number, so copy it from your Capitec Business banking app or statement.

  • TymeBank or Discovery Bank? These aren't in the list because they only offer personal accounts, which can't be used for a company. Use a business account opened with your company's registration number.

  • Bank renamed or taken over? Some banks appear under the name of the bank that now runs the account:

    • RMB Private Bank → FNB (RMB Private Bank accounts run on FNB's system and use FNB's branch code)

    • OM Bank → Old Mutual

    • Mercantile Bank → Capitec Business (use the account number shown in your Capitec Business banking app)

    • Grobank → Access Bank

    • Bidvest Bank → Bidvest Bank Alliance

    • Grindrod Bank or Ubank → African Bank

Still not there? Your bank may not be supported for payouts yet. Contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and tell us which bank it is.

Picked the wrong bank? Go back and choose the correct one. Your account number stays the same.

Banking with FNB?

FNB accounts are the ones we most often have to send back. Before you submit, check your account in the FNB App:

  • Is it opened with your company's registration number? If your FNB business account was opened for you as a sole proprietor, with your ID number, it isn't linked to your company and won't be accepted. You'll need an FNB business account opened with the company's registration number.

  • Is it the main business account? Use the account you pay into and out of, not a savings pocket, notice deposit or fixed deposit linked to it. These have their own account numbers and can't be used.

  • Is it the right account number? Copy it from the account itself in the FNB App, not from a card or a linked account.

  • Did you register your company through FNB? FNB can register your company with CIPC and open the business account in one application. You get an account number straight away, but the account isn't active until your CIPC registration is complete, FNB has verified your FICA documents and you've made a first deposit. Until then, it fails our check as Account not open. Wait for FNB to confirm the account is active, then add it here.

What happens after you submit your bank details?

Most accounts are verified instantly. Some banks can't be checked automatically, so we'll ask for a bank confirmation letter instead (see below):

  • Al Baraka Bank

  • HBZ Bank

  • Old Mutual

If we need to check your details manually, it can take up to 7 working days, including after you've uploaded your letter. You'll see the expected time in the app, so there's no need to contact us while you wait.

If your bank details aren't accepted

What you see

What it means

What to do

The account belongs to another person or business

The account wasn't opened with your company's registration number, or the account holder name at your bank doesn't match your company's registered name. For example, it's a personal account, it belongs to another company or entity, or it's still in your company's old name or trading name

Use a business account opened with the registration number of the company you selected in step 3. If your company changed its name, ask your bank to update the account holder name to the name registered on CIPC first

Account number or bank not valid

A typo, a card number entered, or the wrong bank selected (for example Capitec instead of Capitec Business)

Copy the number from your banking app and check the bank selection

Account can't receive payments

The account can't both make and receive payments, for example a fixed deposit, notice deposit or savings pocket

Use a company account you can pay into and out of – a cheque, current or savings account

Account not open

The account is closed, dormant or not yet activated by the bank (for example, a new FNB account that's waiting for FICA verification or a first deposit)

Use an active business account, or activate it with your bank first. See Banking with FNB? above

If we ask for a bank confirmation letter

You'll see Upload proof of account under In progress on the Complete Setup screen.

1. Get the letter from your bank. Most banks let you download it from their app or online banking → How to download a bank confirmation letter

The letter must:

  • Be an official letter issued by the bank, not a screenshot of your banking app or an informal letter

  • Be dated within the last 3 months

  • Show the company name as account holder, the account number, branch code and account type, matching what you entered

  • Be a JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF file under 5 MiB, and not be password protected

2. Upload the letter as follows:

  • On the Complete Setup screen, select Upload proof of account.

  • Drag the letter into the upload box, or select Upload file and choose it from your phone or computer.

  • Select Upload.

Can't see the upload box? Close the step and open it again.

Upload not working? Check that the letter is a JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF file under 5 MiB and isn't password protected. Many banks send password-protected PDFs, so download an unprotected copy or save it without the password first.

Need to change your bank details?

While your bank details are still being verified, you can't add a new account on top of them. Delete the current details first, then submit the correct ones. Deleting also cancels the review, so your new details are checked from the start.

  • Waiting for your letter? On the Complete Setup screen, select Upload proof of account, then select the red bin icon next to your bank details.

  • Letter already uploaded? On the Complete Setup screen, select Change next to Reviewing your bank account details, check the details shown, then select Delete.

Enter your correct bank details and submit them. The account must be opened with your company's registration number.

Bank account verification FAQs

How does Yoco verify my bank account?

We run a series of checks as soon as you submit your bank details. Read all about them here.

How long does it take to verify a Capitec Business account?

Anything from a few seconds to about 7 hours. Capitec Business confirms account details to us in batches rather than instantly, so your details can sit in In progress for a few hours even when everything is correct. You don't need to do anything or contact us during this time.

7. Verify directors and shareholders

We're required to verify the identity of every director and of every person who owns 25% or more of the company. We'll show you the directors registered with CIPC. Add their contact details and we'll send each of them an ID verification link.

  1. Select Verify stakeholders on the Complete Setup screen.

  2. You're at the top of the list, already marked Verified – whether you're a director or signed up with a letter of authority. Next to Are you a shareholder?, select the green tick if you own part of the company, or the red cross if you don't.

  3. If you selected the green tick, enter your percentage of ownership, then select Confirm.

  4. Select Verify next to the next director. Their name and ID or passport number come from CIPC and can't be changed here.

  5. Enter the director's email address and mobile number. Make sure these are correct – this is where we send their link.

  6. If the director owns part of the company, tick Director is a shareholder? and enter their percentage of ownership. Then select Submit.

  7. Check the details on Send ID verification link, then select Send link. If you're not ready yet, select Send later.

The director will get an email from Yoco Support <[email protected]> with the subject Confirm your details for [your company name] on Yoco, asking them to:

  • Consent to the Yoco agreement, confirming that you're authorised to sign up the company with Yoco (if you selected I have a letter of authority in step 4, this is where the directors grant you that authority)

  • Verify their identity with their ID document and a liveness check

Their status shows Pending until they've completed it, then changes to Verified. Repeat for every director on the list.

Adding shareholders who aren't directors

Only add shareholders who own at least 25% of the company.

  1. Turn on Have additional shareholders?, then select + Add shareholder.

  2. Choose whether the shareholder is a Legal entity (an organisation such as a company or trust) or a Natural person (an individual), then select Continue.

  3. Legal entity: select the entity type (CIPC registered business, DSD registered non-profit, Trust, Partnership or Not registered), then enter its name, registration number (if registered) and percentage of ownership, and select Submit.

  4. Natural person: enter their name, email address, mobile number and percentage of ownership, then send their ID verification link. They'll only need to verify their identity.

When you've sent links to all directors and added all shareholders, select Done at the bottom of the screen.

Your directors and shareholders complete their verification

Each person you sent a link to will get an email from Yoco Support <[email protected]> with the subject line Confirm your details for [your company name] on Yoco. What they need to do depends on their role:

  • Directors: open the link, consent to the Yoco agreement and verify their identity.

  • Shareholders who aren't directors: open the link and verify their identity.

The Verify stakeholders task stays open on your Complete Setup screen until every director and shareholder has completed their verification. When someone is done, their status changes from Pending to Verified.

Need to fix someone's details or resend their link?

While the task is open and the person is still Pending, you can edit what you entered or send the link again:

  1. Select Verify next to Verify stakeholders on the Complete Setup screen.

  2. Select ••• next to the person's name.

  3. Choose what you need:

    • Edit – correct their email address, mobile number or ownership percentage, select Submit, then Send link. A new link goes to the updated details.

    • Resend verification – send the link to the same email address again.

  4. You'll see Details saved. Select Done.

❗Important: Names and ID or passport numbers come from CIPC and can't be edited in the app. If a name or ID number is wrong, update it with CIPC first, then contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat. Once a person is Verified, their details can't be changed in the app anymore – we'll update them as part of our regular compliance information refresh.

8. Final checks

Once all your directors and shareholders are Verified, the Verify stakeholders task closes and you'll see Yoco profile verification – In progress.

We now run our final checks on your information. This can take up to 15 minutes.

Still showing 'In progress' after 15 minutes?

Sometimes our compliance team needs to review your information manually before we can activate your profile. This is a standard check that we're required to do. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, and you don't need to do anything.

  • What you'll see: the status stays on Yoco profile verification – In progress while we review. It doesn't change to show that a review has started.

  • How long it takes: most reviews are finished within 3 working days, and almost all within 7 working days.

  • Do I need to contact Yoco? No. Contacting us won't speed up the review. If we need more information from you, we'll contact you.

  • Still in progress after 7 working days? Contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat.

Once the review is done, you'll see Your profile is active! the next time you open the Yoco App.

When the checks are done, you'll see Your profile is active! with ideas on what to do next – set up payouts, save with Yoco, set up online payments, and learn how to use your card machine. You're ready to start taking payments.

Is my profile active? Can I take payments?

Open the Yoco App and go to Complete Setup:

What you see

Can you take payments?

Your profile is active!

✅ Yes, your profile is active and you can start taking payments

Tasks under To do (for example Verify stakeholders)

❌ Not yet – complete the open tasks first

Tasks under In progress (for example Reviewing your bank account details or Yoco profile verification)

❌ Not yet – we're still checking your information. See the expected time in the app

You can't take payments until every step is complete, including your bank details and the verification of all your directors and shareholders.

My card machine says 'Profile setup incomplete'

Your profile isn't active yet. Check Complete Setup in the app for any task under To do or In progress – often it's your bank details still being verified or a director or shareholder who hasn't completed their verification yet. Once you see Your profile is active!, try the payment again.

My profile is active, but my card machine still won't take payments

Restart your card machine and make sure it's connected to the internet, then try again. If it still doesn't work, contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and have your card machine's serial number ready.

My profile is active, but I can't take online payments yet

Online payments are set up separately. After your profile is active, select Setting up for online payments and follow the steps. If you're adding a website, we review it before you can take payments on it.

Director and shareholder FAQs

A director or shareholder hasn't received their verification link. What should I do?

The email comes from Yoco Support <[email protected]> with the subject Confirm your details for [your company name] on Yoco. Ask them to:

  1. Check their spam, junk or promotions folder.

  2. Search their inbox for [email protected] or Confirm your details for. New emails can get grouped into an older Yoco thread and look as if they've already been read.

  3. Give it a few minutes to arrive.

Then check on your side:

  1. Open Verify stakeholders, select ••• next to their name and select Edit. Check that the email address is spelled correctly. If it's wrong, fix it, select Submit and Send link.

  2. If the address is correct, select ••• → Resend verification to send it again. Ask them to use the most recent email.

  3. Company email addresses can block automated emails, and some providers don't deliver to + addresses (e.g. [email protected]). If that might be the case, edit their details to use a different email address and send the link again.

You can only edit or resend while their status is Pending. If it still hasn't arrived, contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat.

The director list is wrong or out of date?

The list shows what's currently registered with CIPC. If a director has left, joined, or their details are wrong, update it with CIPC first. If CIPC is already up to date, contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat and we'll refresh your company's information. You can't add, remove or edit directors in the Yoco App.

A director can't or won't verify (overseas, unavailable)?

If a director really can't complete the verification, contact Yoco Support via our in-app chat. Depending on your business structure, we might ask you to upload copies of their ID documents without liveness check instead.

I entered the wrong details for a director or shareholder?

While their status is Pending, select ••• next to their name, then Edit to correct their email address, mobile number or ownership percentage, and send the link again. Names and ID numbers come from CIPC and can't be edited here. Once someone is Verified, their details can't be changed in the app. We'll update them later as part of our regular compliance information refresh.

I can't see the Done button?

The Yoco Support chat box can cover it. Close the chat to see the button.

What happens if a director or shareholder doesn't verify?

We can only finish setting up your account once everyone has completed their verification, so you won't be able to take payments until then. Ask them to complete it as soon as possible.

Need to change your business or business type?

If you signed up with the wrong company, or selected the wrong business type (for example, you're actually a sole proprietor not a (Pty) Ltd), you can change this from the bank details step:

  1. On the Complete Setup screen, select Add your bank account (or Re-submit your bank details).

  2. Under Where should payouts be sent?, select the option that matches the account you want to use:

    • A bank account registered with a different business – to use an account opened with another company's registration number.

    • A bank account registered under an ID or passport number – to use an account opened with your ID or passport number. This switches your profile to sole proprietor. This also applies to a business account opened with your ID or passport number instead of a company registration number: because the account isn't linked to the company, you'll need to sign up as a sole proprietor to use it.

  3. The next screen tells you what the change means: your current business details will be replaced with the new business, and the bank account must be in the new business's name. Payouts can only go to the business you sign up with.

  4. Select Update business details to continue, or Go back to keep your current business.

  5. You'll be taken back to Add your business details (step 3). Complete it again with the business that matches the bank account you want to use, then continue with the remaining steps.

❗ Important: Changing your business replaces the business details you've already entered. If you switch to a different company, you'll need to be an active director of that company on CIPC (or have a letter of authority from its directors – see step 4), and its directors and shareholders will need to verify. If you switch to sole proprietor, follow the Sole Proprietor guide from there.
