What is Yoco?

Find out what Yoco is and how it helps you accept payments, manage your business, and grow.

Updated this week

Yoco is a South African technology company built for the self-made. Since 2015, we've backed over 200 000 independent business owners – not just to get paid, but to remove the daily friction of running a business.

Get paid, anywhere

Whether at a market, a table, a countertop, or selling online, Yoco makes it simple to get paid however your customers want to pay. Our card machines, from the portable Khumo to the countertop Neo Touch, are built to keep up with how you work. And they all connect seamlessly to the Yoco App and Yoco Counter – giving you full control and visibility across every sale.

Run your whole business from one place

As your business grows, so does the complexity. Yoco Counter, our point of sale connects your sales, stock, and staff in one account – no juggling systems, no manual reconciliation. Every transaction flows automatically into the Yoco App so you can make confident decisions.

For restaurants, TABLE by Yoco connects front-of-house and kitchen operations, so your team moves faster, errors drop, and your guests get a better experience.

Ready for whatever comes next

When opportunity shows up, Yoco Capital gives you access to fast, flexible funding based on how your business is already performing – no lengthy applications, and no surprises.

Let’s grow with you.

Safe, secure payments

Over 200 000 businesses across South Africa trust Yoco to help them get paid. Yoco Tap is as secure as regular Chip and PIN payments, and every card has built-in security checks.

The Yoco ecosystem is internationally certified by Visa, MasterCard and EMVCo, and we’re fully PCI compliant. All online payments through Yoco are protected by 3D Secure. We also use sophisticated risk monitoring to detect and deal with fraud fast.

Sign up in minutes

Signing up with Yoco takes as little as five minutes at yoco.com or through the Yoco App (mobile or web). All you need to do is create your Yoco profile by providing us with the following information:

  • Your name, email address, mobile number, and password

  • Your business trading name, business trading address, business type (e.g. sole proprietor, closed corporation, trust, etc.), and business category (e.g. food & beverage).

Over 90% of Yoco merchants complete their profiles without any manual document uploads or intervention, and more than half are fully verified and compliant within just 15 minutes! If a manual review is required, the process can take up to three working days.

Once you’ve signed up with Yoco, you'll need to complete your profile in the Yoco App (mobile or web).

→ South African citizens

Enter your 13-digit South African ID number, and complete a liveness check by taking a selfie. If we're unable to match this live selfie to your photo on the Home Affairs database, you'll be asked to take a photograph of your valid green ID book, smart ID card (front and back), or passport.

→ Foreign nationals

Upload a valid passport and a work visa stating that you're entitled to conduct work, business, or employment in South Africa.

→ Asylum seekers and refugees

Upload a valid Asylum Seeker Temporary Permit, formal recognition of refugee status, or Red Refugee Book.

You’ll also need to:

  • Verify your email address and mobile number.

  • Add bank details for a personal bank account (if you’re a sole proprietor), or a business bank account (if you’re signing up as any other business type).

  • Provide additional documents (if you’re signing up as a Trust or NPO).

  • Verify all stakeholders (if you’re signing up as a registered business).

💵 As soon as your profile has been verified, you can start transacting and receiving payouts.
