TABLE I Adding Modifiers

Find out how you can set up modifiers in TABLE by YOCO so that your customers customise their orders.

Updated this week

Please note: To ensure a seamless POS setup, please follow this order:

  • (Start by adding) MENUS ➡️

  • (Then add) MENU CATEGORIES ➡️

  • (Then add) MODIFIERS ➡️ (You are here!)

  • (Finally add) PRODUCTS

Modifiers let you offer more choice to your customers, without cluttering your point of sale. Whether they want extra cheese, or no cheese, modifiers allow your customers to customise their order, and help you work faster and more accurately.

Variants vs modifiers

Variants and modifiers offer your customers more options, in different ways.

  • Variants are specific to an individual product, e.g. small, medium, and large cups for cappuccino and/or mocha.

  • Modifiers are more flexible, e.g. you can create a modifier like ‘Extras’ which could include extra cheese, extra avo, extra mayo, and then link to to multiple products, e.g. beef burgers, chicken burgers, and pizzas.

  1. Log in to your TABLE back office at table.yoco.com.

  2. Hover over the Products tab in the navigation bar at the top of your screen.

  3. When the sub-categories appear, select the Modifiers option.

  4. Select the blue Create Modifier button in the top right corner of your screen.

  5. When the Create Modifier screen opens up, you can:

    • Add a modifier name, e.g. Milk Options, Extras (required).

    • Add a modifier description (optional).
    • Confirm the category status, which is automatically set to ‘Modifier is in use’.
    • Choose whether the modifier is required (it is automatically set to ‘No’). A good example of when a modifier should be set to ‘Yes’ is if you’ve created a modifier called Cooking Preference which includes rare, medium-rare, well done etc.

  6. Once you’ve entered the details above, go to the Modifier Rules section near the bottom of the screen. Here you can:

    • Choose the modifier type – this will either be Option (if you’re adding options for the customer to choose from, e.g. milk types) or Product (if you’re linking a product as a modifier, e.g. extras like cheese, avo, tomato etc.)

    • Decide how many options a customer can select. In the case of Milk Options, they would only need to select 1 option.

    • Decide how many times a customer can select the option. In the case of Milk Options, they would only need to select it once.

💡 Good to know: If you’re running a 3-course meal special and customers are able to choose from several meal options per course, you would set the number of options as 3, and the number of times an option can be selected as 3. If it was a 2-course special, you would set the number of options as 2, and the number of times an option can be selected as 2.

  7. Select the green Save button in the top right corner of the screen.

  8. A new series of tabs will appear on your screen. You’re now in the Details tab, which is the screen you’ve just completed.

  9. Select the Options tab, then select the + Add Option button.

  10. Add your first option, e.g. Fresh Milk, which is automatically set as the default – this means that Fresh Milk will automatically be added to every Cappuccino order that’s placed. If you prefer not to have any modifier automatically added to a product, simply disable this setting. It's possible to change your default option whenever you like if you notice a difference in customer behaviour.

  11. Select the + Add Option button again to add additional modifier options. Repeat until all options have been added.

  12. Once you’ve added all your options, select the green Save button in the top right corner of your screen.

  13. Select the Linked Sites tab.

  14. Select the + Add Sites dropdown and select the site you’d like to link the modifier option to.

  15. Select the green Save button in the top right corner of your screen.

  16. Select the Site Settings tab.

  17. Enter the cost that needs to be added to the existing product price per option, e.g. there may not be an extra cost for Fresh Milk, but you’ll want to add a cost for specialty milks that increase the cost price of the product.

  18. Select the green Save button in the top right corner of your screen.

  19. Once you've linked the modifiers you’ve created to specific products, they'll display in your POS software (as per the image below).
